Queuing Theory at Work — Tricks and Kinks during Gatling Simulations

Queuing Theory is one of the fundamental tools for performance engineering. In this talk, we demonstrate some powerful applications of Little’s Law. Furthermore, some kinks and defects of the load testing tool is exposed via our exercise. Although Gatling.io is discussed, the type of defects are potentially applicable to other load testing tools as well. Finally, we seek help from our colleagues in CMG in trying to make sense a mysterious result that seem to defy common sense.

Presented by

Xiaosong Lou, Principal Performance Engineer at ForgeRock

Xiaosong Lou spends his entire career as a performance engineer and a proponent for Queuing Theory. His recent publications with CMG Impact are focused on concurrency analysis. This talk discusses some of the recent findings working with the popular load testing tool Gatling.io. We believe the problems revealed are not unique to Gatling. Xiaosong Lou has a Ph.D from University of Southern California. He is now working as a Principal Performance Engineer for Forgerock Inc.
