TIME dotCom Berhad is a Malaysian-based telecommunications provider with an interesting transformation story and continues to grow domestically and regionally. In this lecture, Mr. Afzal Abdul Rahim will discuss the digital transformation of TIME dotCom, its priorities and the skills he considers important in a rapidly developing industry.

Afzal holds a Degree in Mechanical Engineering with Electronics, specialising in Acoustic Wave Theory from the University of Sussex, United Kingdom. He started his career in the automotive industry culminating in a regional role with Group Lotus PLC. A technology entrepreneur, he also founded the Malaysian Internet Exchange (MyIX), which was established in 2006. He currently sits on the Boards of CIMB Group Holdings Berhad, Symphony Communication Public Company Limited, CMC Telecommunication Infrastructure Corporation, Megawisra Investments Limited, Megawisra Sdn Bhd, Global Transit International Sdn Bhd and Pulau Kapas Ventures Sdn Bhd.

Thriving Digital Transformations Relies on Human Transformation

Transforming leadership is an important ingredient in successful digital transformations. Too often digital transformation projects are considered as purely digital and then struggle with inspiring and engaging people in the implementation phase. What can we do to create a more holistic process, where human transformation is considered and supported as part of the evolution?

 

Heidi Gutekunst, CEO/Co-founder, Amara Collaboration

Heidi has a M.Sc. (Econ.). She has worked most of her career in traditional and digital advertising agencies. Heidi has several national and international awards in innovative advertising, branding, design and digital service design. She started her career working as a Human Resource Manager and continued from there to key account management, strategic advertising and branding.

The last three years Heidi has served as a CEO for a digital advertising agency. During Heidi’s time as a CEO the company went through a transformation with results in financial performance, employee satisfaction, conquering new offerings, turning customers into accounts and winning both national and international awards for the first time in years.

In 1997-1998 Heidi travelled with people around the world with 170 youth from 24 different countries. The group managed and performed a 2-hour musical, did community service and lived in host families in each of the 90 places the group visited. This experience did not only result in contacts all over the world, but also in becoming highly flexible and adaptive to new situations and cultures.
Heidi is a regular speaker at Business Forums interested in her personal entrepreneurship and transforming ability.

IR 4.0 and its system application Issues and Challenges

IR 4.0 represents the integration of tools already used in the past (big data, cloud, robot, 3D printing, simulation, etc.) that are now connected into a global network by transmitting digital data. The implementation of this new paradigm represents a huge change for companies, which are faced with big investments. In order to benefit from the opportunities offered by the smart revolution, companies must have the prerequisites needed to withstand changes generated by “smart” system.

 

Prof. Rusli Haji Abdullah, Dean in the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, UPM

Prof. Rusli Abdullah is currently Professor of Knowledge Management at Software Engineering and Information System Department, as well as the Dean of Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

Specialized in Knowledge Management, he has completed his PhD in Computer Science at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Johor, Malaysia in 2006. Starting his career as a lecturer in 2006 after serving as System Analyst for 8 years at UPM. He has published over 14 books and over 100 journal papers, conference publications and other academic research publications. He has also received numerous awards and recognitions throughout his career that includes Silver Medal for University Research Invention in 2008 and 2009, Gold Medal for University Research Invention 2005, Silver Medal for Invention of Technology and Exposition I-TEX (2009), Silver Medal for Malaysian Research Invention and Exposition – MTE (2010, 2012, 2014) and Certification of University Excellent Services of Lecturer Service for many years since 1999.

Full Computer Automation in Enterprise Management in IR4.0

Traditionally companies are being run based on departments and in fact many companies are still running in Silos. Industrial Revolution 4.0 will break these silos by having the computers to do almost all the transactions that were normally done by human. We are looking at full automation in the areas between sales and accounting, marketing to sales, purchasing to accounting, online payment and automated payment, B2C and B2B portals that are integrated to ERP system, automated staff management, integration of POS and online e-commerce and others. We are looking at re-organisation of human functions in companies due to the impact of IR4.0

He was involved in automation of many major industrial plants in Malaysia in the early period of his work life.. For many years now he focuses on enterprise solutions to help SMEs and large companies to benefit fully from the advancements in internet and cloud technologies. He also contributes as Adjunct Professor and Advisor in a number of Universities in Malaysia.
