SUMMARY:Ensuring performance: How major retailers leverage user traffic to validate code changes
DESCRIPTION:Software development and testing is ultimately all in preparation for go-live. But what if you could predict how your go-live could go wrong? Modern cloud engineering teams at organizations such as Uber\, DoorDash\, and Google ‘mirror’ or ‘shadow’ traffic to see if new builds are ready for primetime. They’ve found that leveraging their own production traffic is key to optimizing throughput and latency\, as well as knowing whether code changes are impacting the resource consumption of their clusters. In this webinar\, we’ll share our top takeaways from helping large retailers use traffic to validate their code changes. Join us to learn how traffic-based tests and mocks can accurately simulate peak load conditions\, ensure performance\, and increase your topline revenue. \nVisit www.speedscale.com to learn more about production traffic replication\, or to start a free trial! \n\n \nVisit www.speedscale.com to learn more about production traffic replication\, or to start a free trial! \nAbout the presenter: \n \nNate Lee\, Co-founder and VP of Sales\, Speedscale \nNate has served a variety of roles within the software industry. Most recently\, he was in enterprise sales for the digital transformation consultancy Contino (acquired by Cognizant). Prior to Contino\, he served as Product Manager at CA Technologies\, by way of iTKO where he was a Presales Engineer for 6 years. Before iTKO\, he spent time as a support leader at IBM Internet Security Systems\, and engineer at ILC (acquired by General Dynamics). He graduated from Georgia Tech with an MBA in Technology\, and BS in Computer Science. You’ll most likely find him outdoors on 2 wheels when he’s not innovating with his Speedscale buddies. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nSession Sponsored by:

SUMMARY:Minneapolis/St. Paul Regional CMG Meeting Mainframe – Still Innovated at Any Age
DESCRIPTION:Date:                 Thursday September 22\, 2022 \nTime:                1:00 PM – 4:00 PM \nLocation:          Sirius Computer Solutions Inc \nAddress:           7760 France Avenue S.  – Meeting on 2nd Floor Bloomington\, MN \nThe meeting is open to anyone who would like to attend. Cost:  n/c \n Register Here\n \n\nAgenda:\n1:00 – 1:15            Welcome / Business Meeting – CMG Board \n1:15 – 2:00            What did you do about the IBM/MLC 5% increase and some negotiation tips? – Brian Hoare \nAbstract:  In January 2022 IBM increased IBM/MLC by 5%. In January 2023\, the same increase will occur again – another 5%. Guess what\nwill happen in 2024? \nThis will get worse\, especially if you have a CPI increment inserted in your IBM agreements. CPI so far this year is 8.5%.  So\, a 5% IBM/MLC increase and a CPI increase.  This could be a big price increase – ouch! Have you considered how you can offset these cost increases? \nThis discussion will suggest ways to offset the 5% and ways to negotiate with IBM and other ISV’s. \n2:00 – 2:15             Break sponsored by Sirius \n2:15 – 4:00            “z16\, AI security\, Containers” – Ray Kilgore\, Sr. Solutions Architect \n4:00 – 6:00            Onsite Happy Hour – Sociable on 14th floor \n

SUMMARY:WEBINAR: Predicting carbon footprint for Cloud Data Platforms
DESCRIPTION:Differences in architecture\, scalability\, the efficiency of optimizer plans\, and workload management of Cloud data platforms all directly impact the power consumption and carbon emissions associated with running workloads in the cloud. \nGartner predicts that by 2025\, the carbon emissions of Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) will be one of the top criteria in cloud purchase decisions. Even if the providers claim to be carbon neutral (because they pay the offsetting taxes)\, Cloud customers care about the efficiency with which their workloads execute in the cloud. Gartner expects carbon footprint measurement technologies to see significant adoption as organizations broaden their focus to all emission types and increase reporting transparency. Ignoring carbon emissions during Cloud data platform selection will affect the carbon footprint and the company’s sustainability. \nThe power consumption and carbon footprints of Cloud data platforms depend on both software and hardware performance\, based on the resource consumption profiles of each business workload. \nDuring this webinar\, we will review a methodology that we use to predict the following: \n● the minimum cloud data platform configuration needed to support business Service Level Goals (SLGs) and\n● project the power consumption and carbon footprints for complex\, small and medium complexity Data Warehouses\nThe methodology we use is then illustrated using case studies of the Vantage\, Snowflake and Redshift platforms in an AWS environment. A similar approach can be applied to other cloud data platforms and CSPs. \n  \nYou Will Learn\n● Workload characterization in Cloud environments\n● Predicting the minimum configuration needed to meet SLGs for all workloads\n● How to estimate the power consumption and carbon emission by business workloads in cloud environment \n  \nGeared To\n● Enterprise /cloud architect\n● Decision recommenders/decision makers \n  \nPresenter\nDr. Boris Zibitsker is the founder and CEO of BEZNext. He focuses on developing cloud performance and financial optimization software to assist with cloud migration and dynamic capacity management in Hybrid Multi-Cloud environments. He is a member of SPEC Research Group. Boris consults with many Fortune 500 companies.\nPrior to founding BEZNext Boris was a CTO of Modeling and Optimization at Compuware. SUMMARY:SESSION 1: Pushing Code? Don’t Forget to Flag Your Canaries
DESCRIPTION:Reliability is multifaceted. Your approach to releases plays a part in that. It’s smart to think forward. What’s impacted? What will change? Canary releases\, or phased rollouts\, allows you to better manage the release lifecycle and understand any impact to reliability. Iteration and canarying is more involved than traditional big releases. You need to look at the code being deployed and flag everything that comprises each new feature. You’ll also need to tag groups of users. And instead of one big release\, you do several smaller releases where more groups of users receive more features each time. \nIn this talk you’ll learn: – Why you should consider an iterative canarying approach to releases – Knowing when it’s safe to expand and iterate – Understanding how users rely on your services to find the ideal groups to canary Your reliability plan should comprise these parts. Learn the agile way. \nSPEAKER: Hammad Mushtaq Engineering Manager As an Engineering Manager that has led teams ranging from mobile to web to cloud\, Hammad is continuously working to ensure we are delivering value to our customers while maintaining high standards for reliability. \n Register Here\n \n

SUMMARY:Reliability is a Team Sport. Let’s Practice! - Peer Forum
DESCRIPTION:CMG Peer forums are an opportunity for technology practitioners to meet and discuss relevant topics with their peers. \n\n\nReliability is a Team Sport. Let’s Practice! \nOf course\, reliability is important. Customers depend on certain behaviors when using your product or service.  \nMeanwhile\, DevOps teams are under the strain of managing releases at a higher velocity\, while maintaining production health and keeping everything running as expected. \nYep\, that good ole Reliability charter we all aim for is not easy to reach.   \nThis Q&A style session probes into reliability definitions and how that can evolve over time\, by org size and maturity. We will dive into important questions about which part is the most important at the outset and interdependencies. What must you get right in order to lay a solid foundation as the team and company grows. \nOur guest Jason draws on his years of experience working with customers large and small during his New Relic days\, and more recently with Blameless. Matthew draws on years of working closely with teams to activate reliability platforms and solutions tailoring runbooks and incident management steps. \n \n\nAbout this event\n\n\n\nJoin us for our Site Reliability Engineering-themed peer forum on June 21st! \nOur host for this session is Blameless\, the end-to-end SRE platform that optimizes service reliability with SLOs\, and error budgets. \nAttendance is limited to 25 registrants a more intimate experience. \n\n\n\n\n  \nRegister on Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/sre-peer-forum-june-21-tickets-316839524547
