SUMMARY:Ohio Valley CMG 2021 Spring Teleconference
DESCRIPTION:Agenda\nOhio Valley CMG is planning a teleconference for April 8\, 2021. This meeting will be conducted over Zoom\, and will have two presentations and a panel discussion about how COVID-19 has changed IT. Admission is free but we do ask that you register. Zoom details will be sent out a day or two before our meeting. We expect to start at 9:00 EDT and finish by about noon. \n  \n08:30 Early gathering for those who want to network before the meeting \n09:00 Introductions and Kickoff \n09:05 What is possible for z/OS development\, even offline or remote? \n10:00 Predict Bad Things Before They Happen… Even if You Haven’t Seen Them Before \n11:00 How COVID-19 Has Changed IT (Panel Discussion) \n12:00ish Wrapup \n  \n\nSpeakers\nJerry Edgington (Western Southern Insurance): What is possible for z/OS development\, even offline or remote? \nIn this presentation we will explore what is possible in the day in the life of a modern programmer.  Showing how a developer might work\, even offline/remote from z/OS\, including testing.  How would they get their work? Where would they find problems or issues to fix? What can be developed and tested\, even when disconnected and only running locally.  Could the developer\, try some new “things” out\, without impacting anyone\, including in CICS\, DB2\, or IMS? What would the pipeline\, workflow or life cycle management\, look like? Could a developer\, develop an application from end to end? Could we remove all the manual steps from development to production deployment? How could multiple developers work on the same source code\, at the same time\, and not impact each other? \nThese are some of the questions\, I hope we will be able to answer or show a path to answering these questions\, but the end of the session. \nNigel Slinger (BMC) Predict Bad Things Before They Happen… Even if You Haven’t Seen Them Before \nBad things just happen. Whether it’s a performance slow down or a service disruption\, it has an impact on our enterprises whether it be revenue\, productivity or both. Over the decades we’ve built our monitors to help ease that problem\, but it is only most effective if we’ve experienced the problem before. Machine Learning solutions learn from past events including performance slowdowns and service disruptions much like humans would. In other words\, many machine learning solutions out there today would have to experience the problem at least once before it can predict it. What if there was a combination of machine learning components\, that when put together\, are able to see those bad things even if you’ve never encountered them before? We’ll talk about those machine learning components and examples of how they can deliver truly predictive machine learning solutions. \nPanel Discussion: How COVID-19 Has Changed IT \nHave you experienced changes in the way you manager performance and capacity for your systems as a result of the COVID-19 impacts?  Have you been wondering if other sites are seeing impacts?  Looking for additional ideas\, including what worked and what didn’t work\, on how to address the changes imposed by the pandemic?  Are recent changes just anomalies\, or will the future of IT be changed permanently? Join us for a panel discussion of the impacts and changes of COVID on IT.  Several IT professionals from organizations in our area will be answering these questions and more in this special session. \n\nAttendance is free\, so register now!\n\nQuestions\, please contact: Ann Knapik\, ann@ohvcmg.org

SUMMARY:Are you still paying the 4% IBM/MLC increase? Why?
DESCRIPTION:On January 1 of each year\, your IBM MLC increases by 4%. Whilst the new hardware is much more efficient and IBM have done a fabulous job in improving performance and reducing costs\, we are still slugged by an annual software increase. During this session we are going to discuss ways to reduce or eliminate that 4% and reduce IBM/MLC by another 6-8%.\n  \n \n  \nPresented by:\nBrian Hoare\nSolutions Specialist \nBrian Hoare has seen the z platform grow from OS/390 to today’s z/OS. He may speak with a “strange accent” and has introduced new solutions into the USA and worked with several startups. He has presented at local/annual CMG’s\, Share and many other conferences discussing cost reduction (IBM/MLC)\, performance and is now his focused on analytical data on “z”. Mainframe analytics are his latest passion\, especially as Z is the richest source of data there is. So why not use the richest source of data we have for helping to run the business? Brian lives in Florida\, is a passionate fan of Rugby and Football (Soccer) and has several refereeing and coaching badges. \n

SUMMARY:CMG Malaysia International Webinar: Future of Finance
DESCRIPTION:Webinar: Future of Finance\nDecember 15\, 2020\n2:30 PM to 4:30 PM  (Kuala Lumpur Time Zone)\n1:30 AM to 3:30 AM (Eastern Standard Time Zone)\nAbout This Webinar:\nDo you know that almost all the US and European digital payment is dominated by Cards (Visa\, Mastercard\, American Express\, etc.)\, while their Asian counterpart is mostly dominated by Phone (Alipay\, Wechat Pay\, etc.)? \nWhat is Banking 4.0? \nWhat are the future digital banking and the financial issues? \nHow could blockchain help to solve said issues and who is adopting this technology and what’s in store down the line for it? \nLet find the answers in CMG Malaysia webinar\, “Future of Finance” presenting by Bin “Robin” Xie\, Chief Executive Officer\, TIDEiSun Group and Effendy Zulkifly\, Founder of Crypto Valley Malaysia / CEO of Blockworq.” \n\nKeynote Speakers\n  \n \nThe Digital Payment Divergence  Card or Phone?\nPresenter: Bin “Robin” Xie\, Chief Executive Officer\, TIDEiSun Group\nDo you know that almost all the US and European digital payment is dominated by Cards (Visa\, Mastercard\, American Express\, etc.)\, while their Asian counterpart is mostly dominated by Phone (Alipay\, Wechat Pay\, etc.)? As a global citizen as well as a FinTech executive\, Robin constantly experiences the difference and deeply understand the digital payment divergence. In this lecture\, she will walk you through the payment evolution from cash to cashless\, how and why there is such a distinctive divergence between the evolution of the west and the east. To understand the root cause\, we will need to trace back to the essentials\, which is\, how the banking system works\, where the true asset is physically and digitally stored in custody\, and how financial institutions choose to share or not to share individual’s information. \nAs of this moment\, Paypal with millions of users announce the adoption of bitcoin\, and the market capitalization of Square once exceeds that of American Express. SUMMARY:What to Do When Resources Go Down and Demand Goes Up: A Pandemic Story
DESCRIPTION:During the pandemic\, some enterprises have seen demand increase (securities trading processors\, wine club home delivery\, media streaming providers); others have seen demand decline. Leaders in both camps tell ASG that resources are remaining fixed or declining\, while customer and business demands continue to rise. The burden is magnified by a workforce that is now remote and geographically dispersed. \nIn this presentation\, ASG’s VP of Product Management Jeff Cherrington will discuss some of these cases and explain how enterprises are responding using data visualization and automation to bridge the gaps imposed by both a remote workforce and increasing demands for innovation. \n  \nJeff Cherrington \nVice President of Product Management\, Systems \nASG Technologies \nJeff Cherrington is the Vice President of Product Management for Systems at ASG Technologies where he drives product strategy\, go-to-market\, and new product introduction. Jeff brings over 30 years of extensive experience providing data processing and packaged software to payments\, banking\, finance\, and other verticals. He has experience in sales\, customer service\, and program management within both initial stage start-ups and billion-dollar public companies. Too often digital transformation projects are considered as purely digital and then struggle with inspiring and engaging people in the implementation phase. What can we do to create a more holistic process\, where human transformation is considered and supported as part of the evolution? \n  \nHeidi Gutekunst\, CEO/Co-founder\, Amara Collaboration \nHeidi has a M.Sc. (Econ.). She has worked most of her career in traditional and digital advertising agencies. Heidi has several national and international awards in innovative advertising\, branding\, design and digital service design. She started her career working as a Human Resource Manager and continued from there to key account management\, strategic advertising and branding. \nThe last three years Heidi has served as a CEO for a digital advertising agency. During Heidi’s time as a CEO the company went through a transformation with results in financial performance\, employee satisfaction\, conquering new offerings\, turning customers into accounts and winning both national and international awards for the first time in years. \nIn 1997-1998 Heidi travelled with people around the world with 170 youth from 24 different countries. The group managed and performed a 2-hour musical\, did community service and lived in host families in each of the 90 places the group visited. The implementation of this new paradigm represents a huge change for companies\, which are faced with big investments. In order to benefit from the opportunities offered by the smart revolution\, companies must have the prerequisites needed to withstand changes generated by “smart” system. \n  \nProf. Rusli Haji Abdullah\, Dean in the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology\, UPM \nProf. Rusli Abdullah is currently Professor of Knowledge Management at Software Engineering and Information System Department\, as well as the Dean of Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology\, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). \nSpecialized in Knowledge Management\, he has completed his PhD in Computer Science at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM)\, Johor\, Malaysia in 2006. We are looking at full automation in the areas between sales and accounting\, marketing to sales\, purchasing to accounting\, online payment and automated payment\, B2C and B2B portals that are integrated to ERP system\, automated staff management\, integration of POS and online e-commerce and others. We are looking at re-organisation of human functions in companies due to the impact of IR4.0 \n  \nAziz Ismail\, Founder and CEO\, Authentic Venture Sdn Bhd \nIr Aziz Ismail is a Techpreneur focusing on enterprise management and automation. He is the past President of TeAM and VP of NEF in Malaysia. His working experience spans from working for Government GLC and Multination companies. SUMMARY:Using “z” data for Mainframe analytics & The loss to your business if you do not
DESCRIPTION:  \nUsing “z” data for Mainframe analytics \n& \nThe loss to your business if you do not \n  \nAbstract \nDoes your organization use mainframe data to conduct mainframe analytics and include business data? \nIn most instances the answer is “No”\, or “kind of”. Considering 80%+ of production data touches the mainframe\, shouldn’t this very valuable resource be used? \nWhy is z data not included more for Analytical\, AI/BI machine learning requirements? Without z data\, is like flying a plane with no navigation system! \nThis 45-minute discussion will highlight the obstacles of why companies struggle in combing data from different platforms\, what data to collect & how to use it for analytical purposes. \nDo not under estimate the difference z data can make to your organizations analytical processes and the advantage this will bring over the competition. \nBrian Hoare’s Bio \nBrian Hoare has seen the z platform grow from OS/390 to today’s z/OS. \nBrian lives in Florida\, is a passionate fan of Rugby and Football (Soccer) and has several refereeing and coaching badges. \n

SUMMARY:Solving the hidden costs of Kubernetes with distributing tracing- Presented by Lightstep
DESCRIPTION:Kubernetes has enabled software organizations to realize the benefits of microservices through its convenient and powerful abstractions. Deploying\, scaling\, and running distributed software at scale is much easier through the use of Kubernetes.\nHowever\, these benefits have not come without costs compared to traditional software operations. Spiraling monitoring expenses\, the creation of single points of human failure\, and a lack of understanding of service dependencies all contribute to significant hidden costs associated with running software with Kubernetes. \nIn this webcast\, we’ll discuss \n– How observability addresses these costs and helps you quantify and understand them.\n– How new open source tools such as OpenTelemetry can help you understand performance of cloud-native software.\n– How you can easily get started using them today. \nSpeaker: Ishmeet Grewal\, Solutions Architect at Lightstep <ishmeet@lightstep.com>\nAs a Solutions Architect at Lightstep\, Ishmeet partners with customers\, Sales and engineering teams to craft scalable and flexible observability solutions that address customer business problems and accelerate the adoption of Lightstep. Prior to Lightstep\, Ishmeet developed novel research solutions and patents at Accenture Labs\, notably a framework for operationalizing machine learning models at scale. Ishmeet is passionate about creating observability solutions that directly deliver business value for diverse cloud architecture systems.
