We will feature two speakers talking about their own experiences with observability programs and how to manage outsourced observability. \nWatch These Videos:\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMuch Observability\, Such Wow!\nPresented by Pranavi Chandramohan – Observability Platform Lead at Canva\nOver the last few years\, Observability has become a critical aspect of software development and systems design. Good Observability practices\, coupled with effective design and tools provide software development teams\, both large and small with a significant competitive advantage. Come learn about my experience with Observability as I went from being a software engineer to an SRE and most recently an Observability engineer. \n\nAbout the Presenter:\n \nPranavi Chandramohan is a professional software engineer with significant experience in web development\, infrastructure design and operation. She has more than 10 years’ experience in software engineering and development with companies like Intel Corporation and Campaign Monitor. In her current role at Canva\, she serves as a Technical Lead working on the company’s Observability Platform. Pravani enjoys presenting and writing about her work to share her knowledge with others. She resides in Sydney. \n  \n\n\nGreat! Your Mainframe is outsourced. What is next in a digital future? Your outsourcer is your partner. How can you avoid common expensive hiccups?\nPresented by Brian Hoare – Analytics Solutions Specialist at ZETALY\nOutsourcer’s do a good job\, but to make the business relationship work equally\, checks and balances must be conducted.\nIn most parts\, the relationship with the outsourcer is positive\, but do you receive all the cost savings expected?\nOnly regular due diligence with the outsourcer will ensure you do.\nCovid has changed the world we live in and companies have moved forward at a ferocious pace\, especially with digitalization\, your outsourcer is no different.\nIn this session\, we will explore the relevant checks and balances\, digitalization\, and some of the benefits that working closer to your outsourcer can bring to you. \nThe future is digital\, are you ready for the change? \n\nAbout the Presenter:\n \nBrian Hoare has seen the z platform grow from OS/390 to today’s z/OS. He has introduced new solutions into the USA and worked with several startups. He has presented at local/annual CMG’s\, Share and many other conferences discussing cost reduction (IBM/MLC)\, performance and is now his focused on analytical data on “z”. Mainframe analytics are his latest passion\, especially as Z is the richest source of data there is. So why not use the richest source of data we have for helping to run the business? Brian now lives in Florida\, but lived in Sydney and Melbourne for 20+ years and is a passionate fan of Rugby and Football (Soccer) with several refereeing and coaching badges. \n  \n\n\n\n\n  \nRegister Now!

The skills required are often learned over many years and are dependent on multiple\, often homegrown\, tooling. In the modern hybrid cloud world\, the ability for a those responsible for performance management and capacity planning to understand and make informed decisions as workloads become interconnected and less predictable is essential. The session will cover the skills needed by the modern performance analyst and capacity planner on the IBM Z\, including how the increased use of analytics and machine learning technologies help inform decision making and ensure the mainframe remains a key part of the enterprise architecture. \nBio\nChris Walker is a Senior Offering Manager with IBM. Over 20 years at IBM he has cover many roles and products across the Z portfolio\, and currently responsible for multiple offerings within IBM’s Z AIOps covering performance analysis\, capacity planning and cost management. \n\nDan Wiegand\nData Center Resiliency: AI-Ops \nToday’s application landscapes are increasingly hybrid\, complex\, and often include IBM Z in large enterprises. With limited staff\, how do you effectively sift through terabytes of data in real-time to identify an issue before it becomes an outage? That’s why organizations are drawn to the promise of AIOps to leverage AI-driven intelligence to make quick and accurate decisions to maintain resiliency. This session looks at how you can accelerate your journey to AIOps by leveraging the wealth of operational data on IBM Z. Cut through the noise to Detect problems faster\, determine root cause to Decide best course of action\, Act in collaborative and automated way to reduce customer impact. \nBio\nDan Wiegand is the Senior Offering Manager for IBM Z Common Data Provider and IBM Z Operations Analytics\, bringing visibility and insight into IBM Z.   In his 23 years at IBM\, he has performed multiple roles across development\, architecture\, and offering strategy for both IBM Z and IBM Cloud solutions.   Dan has an extensive background in IT Service Management. \n\nDiego Bessone\nData Center Resiliency: Cyber Recovery   \nIn 2020\, the Average Cost of Data Breach in USA was $8.64 million —Ponemon Institute Study\nEnhancing your data and operations security…Reduce the time to recovery from days to minutes\, by implementing a Data Corruption Mitigation solution as part of your HA/DR strategy \nBio\nWith over 34 years of experience in Mainframe environments acquired in data centers of multinational companies\, banks and government agencies\, Diego Bessone is currently an IBM Global Sales Business Unit Executive for IBM Z Systems Software. SUMMARY:Ohio Valley CMG 2021 Spring Teleconference
DESCRIPTION:Agenda\nOhio Valley CMG is planning a teleconference for April 8\, 2021. This meeting will be conducted over Zoom\, and will have two presentations and a panel discussion about how COVID-19 has changed IT. Admission is free but we do ask that you register. Zoom details will be sent out a day or two before our meeting. We expect to start at 9:00 EDT and finish by about noon. \n  \n08:30 Early gathering for those who want to network before the meeting \n09:00 Introductions and Kickoff \n09:05 What is possible for z/OS development\, even offline or remote? \n10:00 Predict Bad Things Before They Happen… Even if You Haven’t Seen Them Before \n11:00 How COVID-19 Has Changed IT (Panel Discussion) \n12:00ish Wrapup \n  \n\nSpeakers\nJerry Edgington (Western Southern Insurance): What is possible for z/OS development\, even offline or remote? \nIn this presentation we will explore what is possible in the day in the life of a modern programmer.  Showing how a developer might work\, even offline/remote from z/OS\, including testing.  How would they get their work? Where would they find problems or issues to fix? What can be developed and tested\, even when disconnected and only running locally.  Could the developer\, try some new “things” out\, without impacting anyone\, including in CICS\, DB2\, or IMS? What would the pipeline\, workflow or life cycle management\, look like? Could a developer\, develop an application from end to end? Could we remove all the manual steps from development to production deployment? How could multiple developers work on the same source code\, at the same time\, and not impact each other? \nThese are some of the questions\, I hope we will be able to answer or show a path to answering these questions\, but the end of the session. \nNigel Slinger (BMC) Predict Bad Things Before They Happen… Even if You Haven’t Seen Them Before \nBad things just happen. Whether it’s a performance slow down or a service disruption\, it has an impact on our enterprises whether it be revenue\, productivity or both. Over the decades we’ve built our monitors to help ease that problem\, but it is only most effective if we’ve experienced the problem before. Machine Learning solutions learn from past events including performance slowdowns and service disruptions much like humans would. In other words\, many machine learning solutions out there today would have to experience the problem at least once before it can predict it. What if there was a combination of machine learning components\, that when put together\, are able to see those bad things even if you’ve never encountered them before? We’ll talk about those machine learning components and examples of how they can deliver truly predictive machine learning solutions. \nPanel Discussion: How COVID-19 Has Changed IT \nHave you experienced changes in the way you manager performance and capacity for your systems as a result of the COVID-19 impacts?  Have you been wondering if other sites are seeing impacts?  Looking for additional ideas\, including what worked and what didn’t work\, on how to address the changes imposed by the pandemic?  Are recent changes just anomalies\, or will the future of IT be changed permanently? Join us for a panel discussion of the impacts and changes of COVID on IT.  Several IT professionals from organizations in our area will be answering these questions and more in this special session. \n\nAttendance is free\, so register now!\n\nQuestions\, please contact: Ann Knapik\, ann@ohvcmg.org
