SUMMARY:Fake News: easier to detect with sentiment analysis
DESCRIPTION:In his talk on “Fake News: easier to detect with sentiment analysis\,” Sanjaikanth E. Vadakkethil Somanathan Pillai addresses a critical issue exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. With over 7 million lives lost globally by May 2024\, many have turned to the Internet and social media for information\, often encountering false and misleading content. Sanjaikanth presents a cutting-edge system that leverages ensemble learning methods—such as bagging\, boosting\, stacking\, and voting—alongside recurrent neural networks (RNN) to identify fake news. \nHe delves into how integrating sentiment and emotional analyses enhances the accuracy of these detection systems. By examining the emotional tone and sentiment behind the information\, the system can more effectively distinguish between genuine and false content. Sanjaikanth shares compelling results from his research\, demonstrating that the inclusion of sentiment and emotional analyses significantly boosts the system’s ability to detect misinformation. This innovative approach not only advances fake news detection but also underscores the importance of combining technical methods with human-like understanding to combat the spread of false information online. \n \n  \n  \n\nSpeaker Profile :\n\nSanjaikanth E. Vadakkethil Somanathan Pillai\, has over 19 years of rich experience in research and technology. He is currently a Staff Site Reliability Engineer at Visa Inc. in Austin\, Texas. Sanjaikanth’s academic journey includes an MS in Software Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin\, USA\, and ongoing PhD studies in Computer Science at the University of North Dakota\, USA. \nHis research interests are diverse and impactful\, covering areas such as mobile networks\, network security\, privacy\, location-based services\, and misinformation detection. Sanjaikanth has significantly contributed to these fields through his authorship of five influential books: “Machine Learning\, IoT\, and Artificial Intelligence: Applications and Challenges\,” “ChatGPT: Transforming Industries Through AI-Powered Innovation\,” “Beyond ChatGPT: Pioneering Trends and Technologies in Conversational AI\,” “Intelligent Connections: Challenges and Applications at the Intersection of AI\, IoT\, and Machine Learning\,” and “Routing Optimization for Wireless Sensor Networks: A Procedure for Energy Efficient Routing.” These publications reflect his collaboration with leading academics and his commitment to advancing technology. \nIn academia\, Sanjaikanth has shown exceptional leadership as a Technical Program Committee Member for numerous IEEE conferences and an Editorial Review Board Member for prestigious international journals. His expertise is frequently sought after at international conferences\, where he has served as a keynote speaker and session chair. \nFurthermore\, Sanjaikanth contributes to the tech community as a Hackathon Judge in various industry and university-level competitions\, offering expert insights and evaluations. His professional affiliations include being a full member of Sigma Xi and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). He has an impressive publication record with over 40 works in leading journals and conferences\, including prominent IEEE publications. \nSanjaikanth E. Vadakkethil Somanathan Pillai’s extensive experience\, prolific research contributions\, and active participation in the tech community establish him as a distinguished figure in the field of technology and research.
