Computer Measurement Group Conference - CMG'07 Offers CMG Training: Intense, Focused Capacity and Performance Management Training for Today's Enterprises

Most Comprehensive Training Available Today; One Location, Taught by Industry Luminaries

TURNERSVILLE, NJ., June 18, 2007 - The Computer Measurement Group (CMG), the IT professionals responsible for planning, measuring and managing the world's largest IT infrastructures, announced today that it is offering CMG Training (CMG-T) at the 33rd annual Computer Measurement Group conference, CMG'07, taking place from December 2 -7 in San Diego, CA at the Manchester Grand Hyatt.

CMG-T was initiated last year at CMG2006 to provide consistent and essential information and techniques that are essential to provide capacity and performance management for today's enterprises. The classes are taught by industry luminaries and are designed for all levels including "experts" as well as "rookies" that need to quickly "ramp up" in their knowledge of core competencies.

The courses are divided into two groups. One group consists of the core courses that are "platform agnostic" and provide attendees with basic knowledge that is independent of any specific hardware or operating system. The second group of courses is platform-specific courses that specialize in operating systems such as that z/OS, Windows, Unix and Linux - most often found in today's enterprises.

The core courses include:

  • The Art and Science of Measurement - This course focuses on the methodologies and techniques that are needed to measure and monitor computer performance. It is taught by Mark Friedman, an architect working in the developer division at Microsoft, who has developed measurement techniques and software that are commercially available today.

  • Statistics for Performance Analysis & Capacity Planning - This course presents essential statistical analysis techniques that can be used to derive knowledge from the measured/monitored performance information. It is taught by Ray Wicks who has spent most of his career at IBM in the performance analysis and capacity planning end of the business in Poughkeepsie and at the Washington Systems Center. He is the major contributor to IBM's internal PA & CP tool zCP3000.

  • Modeling and Forecasting - This course leverages the measurement and analysis techniques to performance "what if" analysis using computer performance modeling and forecasting algorithms and techniques. This is taught by Dr. Michael Salsburg, the chief architect for Unisys Systems and Technologies. He has developed patented techniques and modeling software that are commercially available today.

  • Capacity Planning Boot Camp - This course introduces attendees to the development of capacity plans, using the measured, analyzed and modeled computer performance data. It is taught by Dr. Neil Gunther, an internationally recognized consultant who founded Performance Dynamics in 1994. He is the author of three books on the subject of capacity planning.

  • Introduction to TCP/IP Performance Management - This course focuses on performance measurement, monitoring and analysis of the network protocol that drives the Internet as well as most enterprises today. It is taught by Nalini J. Elkins of Inside Products. Nalini is a leader in the area of network performance analysis.

The platform-specific courses include:

  • Windows System Performance Measurement and Analysis - This course is taught by Jeffrey A. Schwartz, Integrated Services, Inc, a Windows performance specialist with an emphasis on SQL Server performance issues.

  • Introduction to z/OS Monitoring, Tuning, and the Workload Manager - This course is taught by Glenn Anderson, a Consulting Instructor for IBM's Systems and Technology Group

  • Unix/Linux CMG Quick Start Course - This course is taught by Adrian Cockroft, a distinguished engineer for eBay. He is the author of four books that address computer performance analysis, resource management and capacity planning for internet services.
