Ray Wicks continues his series called the "Capacity Planning Primer." In Part 4, he shows us a mini-capacity plan and how to present the data.
To highlight the value of CMG for those who aren't current members, we are including a past Mullen Award winner's paper. Ron Kaminski won this award in 2003; it is given to those who not only create an important paper, but show incredible talent in presenting it. His paper, "Time Stable Workload Characterization Techniques," explains a good way to characterize business workloads. Join us in December if you like what you see here.
Alex Bakman writes on "How to Resolve Capacity Bottlenecks and Ensure Great Performance in your VMware ESX Environment - A VMWARE System Administrator's Guide to Identifying Capacity Bottlenecks, Predicting Future Capacity Bottlenecks, and Removing Them." What more do you need to know?
Robert Anderson offers just the help you need to recover from PC woes with"Exorcise Your Demons: Reclaiming Your PC After It's Been Infected with Viruses and Spyware." With the number of viruses and malware increasing, it is only a matter of time before you need this article.
Michael Hines brings us two great book reviews this month. The first is a review of the book, "The Art of Application Performance Testing: Help for Programmers and Quality Assurance," by Ian Molyneaux. He makes the argument that this process isn't done early enough or often enough and shows you how to make it work for you. The second is "Succeeding at SaaS: Computing in the Cloud," by Amy Wohl, one of our keynote speakers at CMG 2009. Everything you need to know to get started with SaaS in a quick read.
Margaret Greenberg had a long phone interview with our 2008 Michelson award winner, Dr. Neil Gunther. Read Part 2 of this interview; part 1 is in the April edition.
Do you find you dread the need to speak up in meetings, interviews and special occasions? Denise Kalm suggests a way you can learn to speak extemporaneously with skill in "Practice Makes Perfect."
Our financial gurus are on hiatus this month - we hope to see them back soon.
Another new feature is the CMG Forum. Become a part of our new social network. www.cmg.org/forum. It is open to everyone and you will be hearing more about it in the coming weeks.
It's not too early to start thinking about CMG 2009. Read about the plans for the conference in a great article by General Chair, Dave Thorn.
The call for workshops and papers is already out on www.cmg.org. Start writing now. The call for workshops has been extended, so if you were thinking about doing one, please read the workshop article and submit one now.
