The National Capital Area chapter of CMG held its first meeting of 2008 on Thursday, March 13. The meeting was held at Mitre Corporation in McLean, VA. Mitre provides a first-rate meeting room, with three video screens across the entire front of the room, providing unobstructed views of presentations for all attendees.

Pete Weilnau
The meeting was well attended, with two dozen attendees, not counting NCACMG officers, vendors and speakers. Anna Arnwine of IBM Tivoli sponsored the coffee breaks, and Donald Marzullo of Xa Systems of Herndon, Virginia, sponsored lunch.
The first speaker was Pete Weilnau from The Information Systems Manager Inc. (ISM) who markets Perfman. He presented "Understanding the AIX Performance data in an IBM Power/VM Partition". Although NCACMG's attendees are primarily mainframe oriented, we attempt to have papers focused on other platforms, as well. Pete's presentation highlighted the many similarities, as well as the differences, between Series p and Series z.

Harv Emery
Harv Emery of IBM's Washington Systems Center bracketed lunch with a two part presentation on the new IBM Series z processor, the z10. Harv made two 70 minute sessions seem way too short.
During lunch, attendees enjoyed a presentation "SerVista-ITSM for Performance, Availability, and Service Level Compliance". This session introduced an enterprise monitoring tool.

Riaz Ahmad
Riaz Ahmad, also of IBM's Washington Systems Center closed out the day with an introduction to z/OS V1R10, which was pre-announced Feb 26th. Riaz's lively style was interesting and entertaining.
The next NCACMG meeting will be at Mitre Corp in McLean, Virginia on June 11, 2008.
