March, 2008
by Margaret Greenberg, CMG'08 Volunteer Chair
One of the most important volunteer positions is to be an author and speaker. Consider your workload, and tell us something about what's going on in your shop, new methods you have tried that work (or not) or research you have been doing. Provide us with an abstract at http://www.cmg.org/conference/cmg2008/call-for-papers.html. New or inexperienced authors are encouraged to request a mentor when they submit their abstract; however, a mentor may be requested at any time during the authoring process.
Are you not quite ready to commit to a paper because you want to know the level of interest in your proposed topic? Contact . The Mentor Chair, Denise Kalm, will gladly respond to your query or redirect you to another mentor.
Thinking of assisting the Conference Committee in other ways? You don't need to attend the Conference for mentoring, refereeing and editing authored papers. What can you do? Check http://www.cmg.org/conference/volunteer-qualifications.html. After reading the duties and qualifications, please complete the volunteer form at http://www.cmg.org/volunteer. Sign up for as many positions (including on-site) as you like, even though you are unsure if you will be able to attend the conference. The Conference Committee won't address on-site needs until September at which time we will contact you again and you can advise us of your availability for on-site duties.
The 2008 Conference Committee has an immediate need for mentors now through mid-June. All previously accepted authors are qualified to be mentors. Referees are needed mid-June through mid-July. Editors refine the accepted papers from mid-August to early-September. Sign up now!
Thank you very much for considering authoring and/or volunteering for mentor, referee, and editor.
