Dr. Bernie Domanski has a technology Wish List he shares with us. Why should things change in the 21st century? This past week saw the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show come to Las Vegas, and if you care about new tech toys, this was THE place to be! This brings up my wish list. For many years, I have kept a list of things I really would like, but can't justify getting for the life of me! I keep the list so if any of my 4 children ask me "Dad, what do you want for your birthday?" I can start rattling off things from the list ... and then they're sorry they even asked.
Chuck Moore shares some Experiences with SAS/CONNECT and Signon Scripts. SAS/CONNECT provides a means to submit SAS code to a remote SAS server. This is handy because it allows offloading processing to bigger faster boxes, or to instances where large datasets reside, minimizing data transfers. In my case, we have PC SAS on our local workstations, SAS on a mainframe, and SAS on some hefty Windows servers. My group has a number of regularly scheduled - production like - SAS jobs that run in batch over night.
This month we start some quick tips to help our readers solve problems. Adrian Cockroft starts off with Load Average Differences Between Solaris and Linux. Phil Mason shows how to improve the quality of your SAS graphs in Hardware vs. Software Fonts in Graphs. For those of you using SAS Graph on z/OS, Phil's technique will work with SAS 9.2, coming soon. More quick tips will be added in future months including virtualization and more. If you have a quick tip to share please submit it to MeasureIT at http://www.cmg.org/measureit/submit.html.
The USS Midway was just a ‘stones throw' from the San Diego Hyatt. Friday afternopon after CMG'07, Jane Shipman and a few friends took the tour. In Post-Conference Education A Memorable Day on the Bay, Jane adds a memorable experience to CMG'07.
Denise Kalm continues to talk about self improvement in Email - Your Face in the World. With hoteling, virtual offices and colleagues around the world, most of us don't know or see our co-workers and the management team all that often, if ever. So how do people view you? How do they form that long-lasting impression that can come from a first contact?
Dr. Thomas E. Bell begins a series of interest to the older reader. In Preparing for Your Final Career: Retirement, Tom begins discussing retirement. Retirement isn't like going on vacation for year after year after year. I've been a CMG member since 1975, and I retired at the end of 2005. I've found that the challenges of the professional world have been replaced by other challenges, some of which I might have avoided if I'd done things differently in the past. And I've had to undertake quick educations on topics I never anticipated in order to deal with the realities of my new career: Retirement.
Kathy Steffens, has some CMG'08 news in Plan to attend CMG'08 in Las Vegas Dec. 7-12, 2008!. And Margaret Greenberg is seeking volunteers in Request for Volunteers for CMG'08 Conference.
Tom Kelman lists the known April Regional meetings in April CMG Regional Meetings.
We have reviews of the Southern California CMG and the St. Louis CMG meetings.
We are always interested in receiving your comments, suggestions, and submitted articles. Help us make MeasureIT even better in 2008.
