February, 2008

CMG'07 seems like it only happened yesterday yet we are already hard at work on CMG'08. As ever we have a wonderful set of volunteers who have stepped forward to help our talented headquarters staff organize this year’s conference. We are always looking for more volunteers so please consider volunteering to be an author, referee or editor. If you prefer, there are other volunteer positions that need to be filled as well, including but not limited to mentor, session chair and session monitor (for both Sunday Workshops and regular sessions). CMG is a volunteer run organization and you will learn a great deal and meet some wonderful people along the way.
The call for Papers and call for Workshops have been published and the main web pages for the conference are already up and running. Abstract submission will be turned on shortly so look for an email about that soon. And, the link for your hotel reservation is already turned on so you can reserve your hotel room well ahead of time. Due to the demand for these rooms, I highly recommend you go ahead and book those rooms early. All of the key links for the conference can be found at: http://www.cmg.org/conference/cmg2008/
If you are struggling to justify your attendance this year have a look at our page that addresses this: http://www.cmg.org/conference/justify.html. You should find something there that will help you.
The CMG-T training sessions were a huge success in 2007 and we plan to continue with those along with an array of real-life, vendor-neutral, sessions on topics as varied as Performance Visualization, ITIL, SOA, the Web, eCommerce, Z/OS, Windows, UNIX, I/O and planning. The management sessions will help you make decisions relating to server consolidation and to understand the impact that eBusiness will have on IT management in general. You will also hear the latest on capacity planning for green datacenters, a critical focus area for 2008 for many companies. The technical and management sessions focus on today’s real world challenges and how to solve them. We have three special focus tracks, one targeted at enterprise architects and the others at performance visualization and those interested in server consolidation and virtualization.
Between sessions you can visit the exhibit hall to get the latest information on "State of the Art" tools for the data center. There will also be Birds of a Feather sessions where you can get together with other interested people to discuss issues and technologies. In the evening you can compare notes with your peers and enjoy the various social functions. And, of course, we offer the Sunday workshops with topics that range from learning about Virtualization to learning about Capacity planning basics. On Monday, many of the largest vendors in the industry will hold their annual user group meetings.
We have a great team once again - Martin Brake as Assistant General Chair, Bill Jouris as Program Chair and Kathy Steffens as Administrative Chair. All of us will be very happy to hear from you and you can contact us at the email addresses below. I hope to see you all in December and encourage you to get those creative juices working and start thinking about your papers!
