Denise Kalm continues to talk about marketing yourself in Exploiting Chaos - How Disruption Can Benefit You. Change assaults us daily, very little of which we have chosen. When you have found a comfortable rhythm, you probably want it to continue, at least until that rhythm bores you and you feel like mixing it up. But this isn't the way our profession works. Industry analysts speak optimistically about "disruptive technologies," but this is just a small component of the change tsunamis we attempt to sail across every day.
Denise Kalm interviews Bob Chaney in Getting to Know the 2005 Mullen Award Winner, Bob Chaney. Robert Chaney won the 2005 Mullen award for his paper, "DDF Performance Analysis - Does It Really Have to Be This Complicated?" highlighting how he resolved a performance problem with the Delta Revenue Pipeline application. At the same time, his paper gave much useful information about how to approach problems of this kind. Bob has a long track record of writing quality papers for CMG, and this award recognizes his contribution. The MeasureIT staff noted that he had never been interviewed for this award, so, belatedly, we are pleased to offer you...the rest of the story.
Michael Hines reviews "Excel Pivot Tables and Charts" by Peter G. Aitken. Many of us probably have used the SAS® "PROC CROSSTABS" to look at the relationships between data. Batch SAS® requires program changes and batch runs to look at alternative analyses. Even interactive SAS® requires a program change and "PROC CROSSTABS" re-execution to see the new results in the output window. Microsoft Excel® Pivot Tables allows us to change our analysis models with the ease of point and click. For those not comfortable working with Excel or Pivot Tables there is even a Pivot Table Wizard to help you get started.
