EUROCMG 2007 together with the cecmg Annual Conference was held successfully at the end of May 2007 in the historic city of Nuremberg, Germany. More then 100 attendees participated in the conference, to attend the wide spectrum of presentations from native German speakers, together with presentations from colleagues from international CMG organisations in the United States, Great Britain, Italy and Austria. Attendees shared the chance to exchange ideas and experience both on a national and an international level.
EuroCMG is a virtual conference for all the countries in Europe who don't have their own CMG organisation or conference, and is hosted in turn by CMG Italia, cecmg., CMG Austria, and UKCMG. cecmg covers the German speaking areas of Europe, Germany and Switzerland.
The theme for the conference was
"Implementation and operation of large scale IT environments"
and many speakers based their presentations around this.
The special highlights this year were our two plenary sessions.
Plenary one:
"The Modern Mainframe"
by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wilhelm G. Spruth
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wilhelm G. Spruth from the University of Leipzig is well-known, not only because of his large number of activities and publications, but also as an innovator and visionary.
Plenary two:
"It's Déjà Vu"
Demystifying SOA & Web 2.0 through the Lens of Society: Sharing is social
by Annie Shum
Annie Shum, VP of SOA Strategy BEA Systems and representing CMG USA, is one of the best known names in the SOA business.
It was exciting to hear how tasks and problems have been approached and solved in another cultural context, and to discuss this afterwards in an informal setting.
There were 39 sessions in all at the conference, 17 in German and 22 in English - which gives you an idea of the ability of the average German Performance Analyst to speak English!
Our evening events offered an excellent opportunity for informal and relaxed discussions. On the first evening, after a city tour in the historical centre of Nuremberg we had an animated knight dinner in a knight dungeon that is more the 400 years old . For many of our guests it was the first time that they had dinner without using forks and spoons, only having a knife and their own fingers. On the second evening we had an Italian dinner buffet in a very exclusive ambience, entertained by a singing duet, presenting well-known songs and ballads.
At the end of the conference the best papers and presentations were elected. Congratulations to the winner Peter Johnson from Unisys with his presentation about "Java Performance" The other winners are
