This month MeasureIT has a new look! This continues the roll out of the new CMG web-site that started on August 1.

Mike Salsburg Ph.D.continues his presentations on Virtualization with As Available as a Dial Tone. So, you may ask, what does virtualization have to do with dial tone? In this article, I would like to explore how server virtualization can address one facet of utility computing, which is carrier-grade availability. Availability is considered carrier-grade (as in the carrier of telephony) if its availability meets or exceeds 99.999% available. When we pick up a phone (I mean a land-line phone, not a cell-based phone), we would be surprised NOT to hear a dial tone. Wouldn't you like to live in a world where if an IT service is not responsive, you are surprised?

Denise Kalm talks about marketing yourself in What Is Your Brand? We think of brands primarily in terms of marketing products or services, but in this competitive workplace battlefield, branding yourself is critical to keeping the job you want or obtaining the new one you desire. There are many possibilities and methods for formulating your brand - to learn how you need to be viewed, you need to understand what job/position you want. (Later articles will focus on how to assess your career, how to determine where you want to be next and how to market yourself).

Denise also interviewed the 2006 Mullin award winner, Frank Bereznay in Getting to Know Mullen Award Winner, Frank Bereznay.

Michael Hines has two book reviews this month. Many readers are putting the finishing touches on their CMG'07 papers and will create their presentations next. Mike reviews two books that will help the presenter create an effective presentation, How to Prepare, Stage, and Deliver Winning Presentations, 3rd Ed by Thomas Leech and Beyond Bullet Points: Using Microsoft® PowerPoint® to Create Presentations That Inform, Motivate, and Inspire by Cliff Atkinson.

Dr Bernie Domanski, the CMG'07 General Chair, invites everyone to attend CMG'07 in San Diego in A Letter from Dr. Bernie Domanski, CMG'07's Conference Chair. And he provides some of his thoughts on the CMG'07 program in Program Comments from Dr. Bernie.

Kathy Steffens, the CMG'07 Program Chair, provides her own comments about the CMG'07 program in Program Chair Update for CMG'07 in San Diego including an invite for late breaking technology papers.

Markus Bauer reviews the EUROCMG and Central Europe CMG meeting held on May 23 through 25 in Nuremburg, Germany.

Ken Williams reviews the UK CMG meeting held on June 25 through 27 in Northampton, England.

Margaret Greenberg reviews the Midwest CMG meeting on July 18 in Chicago.

Denise Kalm reviews the Northern California CMG meeting held on August 7 in San Francisco.

Frank Bereznay reviews the Southern California CMG meeting held on August 10 in Los Angeles.

We are always interested in receiving your comments, suggestions, and submitted articles. Help us make MeasureIT even better in 2007.
